kHED is a low-poly 3D design editor designed for independent game developers and modders. It is a free program, that when launched in 2009, gained a lot of popularity within the Half-Life modding community due to its user-friendly interface and sufficient functionality.
BENEFITS
While you may construct models with any level of complexity, kHED is primarily intended for low-poly props (less than 10k triangles). Geometry primitives such as Plane, Polygon, Box, Sphere, Cylinder, Tube, Torus, and procedural tools like "loft" and "lathe" are available in a variety. The texture mapping tool can do basic unwrapping, planar, cylindrical, and spherical projections. Additionally, there's a potent UV editor with a useful model preview and the option to export UV maps for use as backgrounds for creating textures. This software is supported by different game engines due to the availability of a variety of import-export formats like obj, fbx, dae, blend, mdl, smd etc.
